What we funded in 2022 to 2023

We’ve funded £667,637 of projects and activities in Batley, Birstall, Cleckheaton, Cowlersley, Heckmondwike, Holmfirth, Honley, Kirkburton and Highburton, Linthwaite, Netherton and South Crosland, Ravensthorpe, Shepley, Thornhill Lees and Waterloo, based on conversations with people in each local place.


Batley town centre

Activity: Batley – Our town centre

Organiser: Kirklees Council, supported by Batley East and Batley West ward councillors

What we funded: Upgrading the visual appearance of Brunswick Street, with the aim of increasing public social space, improving pedestrian access and reducing anti-social parking (£50,000). Developing the local markets offer, working with commercial partners (£25,000). Promoting local community news and information (£5,000). Creating more local community events (arts, heritage, culture and leisure), working with community partners (£20,000).

Birstall

Activity: Listening to Birstall

Organiser: Birstall and Birkenshaw ward councillors and Kirklees Council

What we funded: Play space next to Fieldhead Co-Location Centre (£40,000). Dog fouling prevention programme across the Birstall and Birkenshaw ward (£10,000).

Cleckheaton town centre

Activity: Cleckheaton – your town, your voice

Organiser: Kirklees Council, supported by Cleckheaton ward councillors

What we funded: Town Centre development fund (£20,000). Tidy Trader Scheme (£1,000). Promotional branding and updating town centre information (£4,000). Supporting key town centre festivals and the development of a new activity (£15,000). Planting, bin and seat refurbishments at Cleckheaton Memorial Park and St Peg Lane (£6,000). Spen Bottoms pathways (£24,000), linked to the Cleckheaton Blueprint.

Cowlersley

Activity: Listen to Cowlersley

Organiser: Pride in Linthwaite

What we funded: Updating the Pride in Linthwaite website (£2,250). Supporting Youth Activities in Cowlersley (£4,040). Supporting local food share and Bread and Butter Thing schemes (£3,880). Encouraging responsible dog ownership and reduction of dog fouling via events and distributing poo bag dispensers (£2,017.56). Raising road safety awareness around schools, providing child shaped bollards (£2,264.48). Start up funding for setting up a monthly local market (£1,123). Local litter picking scheme (£359.75). Improving local play spaces (£30,000).

Heckmondwike town centre

Activity: Listening to Heckmondwike

Organiser: Kirklees Council, supported by Heckmondwike ward councillors

What we funded: Tidy Trader scheme and developing town centre vibrancy (£2,600). Employment, training and volunteering fair (£500). Craft markets (£6,500). Music Festival and Christmas Festival (£13,900). Youth activities (£4,000). Fearless Forest Adventures (£4,775). Pride in Heckmondwike activities (£2,000). Planting, planters, signage and gateways (£2,000). Circular seating and planting for Oldfield Lane, Bins, Refurbishment of benches, signage and lampposts (£9,750). Noticeboard for Firth Park (£1,975). Hanging baskets (£2,000).

Holmfirth town centre

Activity: Your voice, your Holmfirth

Organiser: Kirklees Council, supported by Holme Valley South ward councillors

What we funded: Sands Recreation ground path improvement for walking and cycling, between the playable space and Riverside Way (£40,000). To get a promotional campaign off the ground, promoting Holmfirth as a destination for residents and visitors (£10,000).

Honley

Activity: Ask Honley

Organiser: Friends of Honley Community

What we funded: Traffic calming scheme on Bradshaw Road, Honley (£45,000). Building improvements to Honley Library following the asset transfer in December 2022 (£5,000).

Kirkburton and Highburton

Activity: Ask Burton

Organiser: Kirkburton and Highburton Community Association

What we funded: Speed indicator device for sole use in Kirkburton and Highburton over the next two years (£6,000). Benches or picnic benches at various locations, including Highburton Recreation Ground (£6,000).

Linthwaite

Activity: Your Voice in Netherton and South Crosland

What we funded: Road safety and Modeshift active travel scheme (£4,000). Public Rights of Way improvements for Dean Wood and maps identifying footpath walks (£23,000). Community activity sessions (£3,000). Benches x 3 for Netherton Moor Road, Hawkroyd Bank and Lighten Field Lane (£5,000). Community garden (£3,000). Recycling bins in the village (£4,000). Littering campaign and clean-ups (£3,000). Communications, for example a newsletter and website, promoting community activities, meetings and social events (£5,000).

Ravensthorpe

Organiser: Kirklees Council and Dewsbury West ward councillors

What we funded: Speed Indicator Device and additional traffic patrols (£13,000). Modeshift active travel work with schools (£3,000). Improvements to Public Rights of Way (£10,000). Young People’s Activity Plan (£10,000). Environmental clean-up campaign and works (£7,000). Partnership development with Transformers North and Ravensthorpe Action Group (£7,000).

What we funded: Double yellow lines painted at the turning circle outside Shepley First School to prevent cars from parking here and improve road safety for children.

Organiser: Kirklees Council and Dewsbury South ward councillors

What we funded: Speed Indicator Device and additional traffic patrols (£11,000). Improvements to Public Rights of Way (£10,000). Young People’s Activity Plan (£10,000). Multi-Use Games Area and Youth Shelter repairs (£19,000).

Waterloo

Activity: Listening to Waterloo

Organiser: Kirklees Council and Dalton ward councillors

What we funded: Commissioning S2R to engage the local community in learning, environmental and social activities in local venues (£20,532). Additional youth activity (£1,000). Keep Waterloo Tidy campaign (£500). Improving and repairing public rights of way (£17,968). Public benches (£3,000). Modeshift scheme for active travel around Dalton School and Greenfield Nursery (£5,000). Road safety measures at Cross Green Road  / Brooklyn Avenue / access road to Cottage Homes (£2,000).
