Batley – Our town centre

We’ve been finding out how people feel about visiting, working in or living in Batley town centre now & listening to ideas for the future

Batley ward councillors and Kirklees Council are working together to find out what really matters to you in Batley town centre. Thank you very much to everyone who has already joined in. What happens next?

Kirklees Council, local ward councillors and partners will use what we learn to help create an action plan and direct funding and investment where we can, to reflect what people have told us.

Investing in our town centres

We all want to see our town centres revitalised. Our town centres provide a range of business, cultural, leisure and local retail facilities and are also areas of local growth. Kirklees Council are investing £1.5m in Batley town centre, as part of our small town centres funding. We are also investing in other ways.

We know that how our towns look and feel is important in attracting people to visit them. We want our towns to be clean, environmentally friendly, and welcoming for children and families.

Your contribution to ‘Batley – Our town centre’, is helping to inform the improvements to Batley town centre through the £1.5m Kirklees Council are investing.

Streets for People

Everything we’ve learned about how we can improve air quality, safety, cycling, walking and public transport is also being considered as part of the Streets for People scheme. This scheme will invest an extra £1m from West Yorkshire Combined Authority in making Batley town centre better for people. It has a particular focus on making it easier for people to visit, get around safely and enjoy spending time in the town centre, including cutting down on unnecessary traffic.
