Place Standard Investment Fund

We’re investing in local people’s priorities

We’ve set up a Place Standard Investment Fund to enable people in Kirklees to shape their local place. The funding is available to people who have used the Place Standard tool, with our support, to have conversations with other citizens about their local place. This is a way of getting together, sharing our experiences and identifying priorities for the future, based on what’s most important to local people.

How much is available?

Up to £50,000 per year has been available so far, for each ward in Kirklees. We will update this webpage when more information is available about the next steps for council funding.

Supporting projects in local places

So far we’ve invested £790,783.20 in local people’s priorities, based on our conversations with citizens in local places across Kirklees.

Why we’re doing this

We want to improve how we work together in local places. Citizens have asked to be part of ongoing conversations about what happens in their place (not stop-start consultations). We also want to make sure that council budgets are spent in a way that better reflects the strengths, needs and aspirations of local communities. This funding will enable us all to act on local people’s priorities and ideas.

The main principles of this fund are:

  • Working with people, enabling citizens to make their local place what they want it to be.
  • Recognising the importance of local identity and learning what’s relevant for each local place.
  • Working in partnership, with councillors at the heart, to genuinely co-produce solutions.

Our long term ambition is that everything we learn from our Place Standard conversations in different places across Kirklees will be used to inform and influence council services and council budget setting – for everything we do to start with citizens.

Shaped by People

These conversations are one of the ways that we’re working towards our Shaped by People shared goal. It’s all about enabling citizens to directly shape their local place.
