Citizen engagement activities

We use the Place Standard tool to help people have conversations about their local place. The Place Standard is managed by our partners in Scotland – the Scottish Government, Public Health Scotland, Architecture & Design Scotland, the Improvement Service and Glasgow City Council.

Your responses to activities in your local place will be processed by the Scottish Government’s IT providers. More information about how your data is processed is available at:
Our Place (Place Standard) – Privacy policy

All the data we collect during these activities (both in local places and online) will then be stored by Kirklees Council, on our secure servers.

Working in the open

We will publish what we learn online. This is so that everyone who is interested can see and learn from what people have said, and so that we can begin to act on this learning together.

Our participants will not be personally identified in the data.

We will be taking photographs and making some video clips during some of the activities. We will ask for your consent before doing this.

The photos and videos will be used as part of our communications. Your image or words may be shared online and via social media, to show other citizens what we are doing.

Keeping in touch

We encourage participants to opt in to our Kirklees Democracy emails, so that we can send you the results of Place Standard activities and let you know about other activities that you might be interested in.

We collect only the information that we need (your name, email address, optional organisation name and local area, and your email preferences).

We use Mailchimp software for sending emails. Please be aware that your contact data may be transferred outside of Europe, in compliance with the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
Intuit (MailChimp) – Global Privacy Statement

Each email bulletin we send includes an option for you to update your preferences, or to unsubscribe.

Where we support community organisations to run activities using the Place Standard tool, the activity organisers (who will be clearly identified) will also receive your contact details, if you choose to provide these. We never share your personal information with any other organisations.

Kirklees Council and activity organisers will only use your contact details for things you’ve asked us to keep in touch about.
