Listening to Birkenshaw results

During September and October 2022, Birstall and Birkenshaw ward councillors supported by Kirklees Council Staff, asked local people about what it’s like to live in Birkenshaw. We used a tool called the “Place Standard” which is a way of helping to get conversations going about any place (it could be your street, neighbourhood, or town), by using some simple questions. The results will help us to create an action plan, which reflects local people’s priorities.

Who participated?

Each of the 1,522 households received an engagement pack including a letter, our ‘Listening to Birkenshaw’ questionnaire and web links for more information. Our first community workshops were affected by the passing of Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II. 12 people later took part in a workshop. We also held young people’s workshops with BBG and Birkenshaw schools. 162 people took part online.

There will be a drop-in session in Birkenshaw to share the results with citizens, so we can talk about the next steps. Local councillors and Kirklees Council will use what we’re learning to help create an action plan, working with citizens.
